Kyoto in winter

MapKyoto in winterKyoto has many faces and many charms. To name but a few - maiko, The Gion Matsuri, Daimon-ji Gozan Okuribi, temples, shrines and traditional Kyoto houses. Traditional arts and crafts are still alive and are today nestled alongside cutting-edge companies.

In effect, Kyoto is a living, breathing museum full of nature, history and many layers of cultural offerings that interests both Japanese and visitors from afar even in this modern day and age and it is primarily in winter that you can enjoy Kyoto in a relaxed manner for the simple reason that the number of visitors at this time of year is far lower than in other seasons. When walking around the city, the crisp, cold air lets you appreciate better the sights and sounds, the smells permeating the air like at no other time during the year.

This winter, why not make the trip and enjoy Kyoto, a typically Japanese city that should never fall foul of the usual hustle and bustle of sightseeing travel.
