Boat Ride in Yokohama

International luxury liners often enter and leave the port of Yokohama. The foreign passenger ships moored in the port add an exotic fl avor to the scenery in Yokohama. After the end of the isolation policy decreed by the Tokugawa government (1603-1867), Japan accelerated the speed of its modernization. As one of the fi rst trading ports opened in Japan, Yokohama is historically signifi cant. In 2009, the city celebrates the 150th anniversary of the opening of its port. Many commemorative events are to be held in many parts of the city.

Of course, it is nice to walk around the old Western-style buildings and the traditional streets, which retain the atmosphere of those days. However, it might be much nicer to take a boat ride around the harbor, which will give you the slightly diff erent feeling of being a traveler in "the port city," Yokohama.

Some local cruise lines operate sightseeing cruises such as lunch and dinner cruises. Why not take a ride on the Seabass, a ferry for transportation?

The Seabass is convenient, reasonably priced, and time-saving. The ride also makes you feel as if you were a passenger on a luxurious liner. The Seabass departs from Yokohama East Exit, stops at Minato Mirai 21, the Red Brick Warehouse, and Yamashita Park. The route covers the main sightseeing spots in Yokohama and since it is a 10 to 20 minute ride, you can make use of your time effi ciently.

You can enjoy feeling the sea breeze, watching the rhythmically moving waves, and taking in the scenery of Yokohama, which changes its appearances depending on the time of morning, afternoon, or evening. It is also interesting to see refl ections on the surface of the sea appear and vanish.

If you want to take beautiful snap shots of a 360 degree panoramic view of Yokohama, you will have many chances to take picturesque photos. The Seabass fare is determined by distance traveled. Times of Departure: Every 15 minutes from 10:30 to 20:10.
